HARWICH Hockey Club are hosting a special open session.

The free event is for anyone keen to start playing the sport and is taking place tomorrow, from 2pm until 3pm.

More training is available for ladies on Thursdays evenings (7pm until 8pm at the Astro at Dovercourt Leisure Centre) at a cost of £2.

Junior training will start next Thursday, from 6pm until 7pm, with a small charge of £1.30 for girls and boys aged 11 to 16.

Meanwhile, Harwich hosted an under-16 tournament.

The club have not put out an under-16 team for at least 15 years.

They came up against strong opposition from Colchester and Sudbury and both those squads were made up of 15-year-olds, compared to Harwich's 11 to 17-year-olds.

Sudbury and Colchester displayed good attacking skills but were met by some strong defensive work from Emma Joslin, Lucy Henshall, Jen Morgan and Chloe Turner.

Abbie Henshall, Abbie Broom and Eve Garnier played in midfield, with Lucy Brown, Gabrielle Williams, Faith Eagle and Katherine Hammond taking it in turns to play upfront.

Miah Reynolds once again showed her potential in goal, saving shot after shot.

Harwich lost both games 5-0 but the Sudbury side were very close to the Suffolk under-16 side.

Both Henshall and Reynolds are waiting to hear if they have successfully made the Suffolk Development squad.
