MISTLEY finished their Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship campaign with a 70-run success at home to Worlington.

After winning the toss and batting first, they reached 187 before being all out in the 50th over.

The Swans then bowled their visitors out for 117.

The start had been delayed by 25 minutes, due to light rain showers, and batting was difficult in the cloudy conditions.

Captain Daniel Goff opened with Jarryd Walsh and the score reached 28, before Goff was out leg before wicket for 10.

This brought James Scott to the wicket but Walsh was caught just four runs later for 28.

James Garwood was then bowled when the score was on 40.

Scott held the innings together, adding 53 with Adrian Stockton (26) and enjoying a 26-run partnership with Stuart Dove (15) and a 37-run partnership with Timothy Scott.

James Scott was then out for 68, trying to accelerate the scoring later in the innings.

Timothy Scott was run out, having made 20, when the score was on 175 and the remaining batsmen took the score to 187, before the last wicket fell with just two balls of the 50 overs remaining.

Young bowler Jack Fifield took two early wickets, with R Ford caught behind by James Garwood and G Ford caught by Walsh in the slips, with neither batsmen having scored any runs.

Timothy Scott then had Cooper leg before wicket with the score on just 22 for three.

Spin bowler Phil Palmer took the important wicket of opening batsman Hyde, caught by a diving Timothy Scott for 44, before bowling Peachey.

Bruce Leeke took the next wicket, falling to another catch by Timothy Scott, this time running round the boundary.

Palmer drew A Watson into pushing a low catch to James Scott.

Leeke had J Watson caught by Stockton and, soon after, he finished the innings off with two wickets in the 32nd over, both leg before wicket.

Leeke’s bowling figures were four for 14 from five overs and five balls.

Palmer’s figures were three for 25 from eight overs while Fifield took two wickets and Timothy Scott one.

This brought the total wickets taken by Timothy Scott in division one this season to 44, which means he ends the season as the top wicket-taker from any team in this division.

Team-mates Jason Pembroke and Leeke finished with 22 each, Ian Morton 21 and Goff 20.

Walsh finished the season having scored 933 runs in division one, putting him at third place overall for the division.

James Scott’s 68 in this match took him to over 500 runs in the season to finish with a total of 524 runs, with captain Goff close behind on a total of 516 runs.

Wicket-keepers Graeme Butcher and Garwood took 14 and 11 catches respectively.

In the field, Jarryd Walsh took 17 catches - just one below the top number of catches taken by any fielder in division one.

Timothy Scott took 11 catches and James Scott 10.

Mistley finished fifth in division one, having beaten three of the four teams above them at least once this season.
