HARWICH Boxing Club welterweight Paul Gordon took part in the next round of the National Development Championships, at Billericay.
The 20-year-old was up against old adversary Daniel Meins, from Peterborough.
Gordon only just beat Meins on a very close points decision two years ago and was keen to clear up any doubt about his improvement since.
He controlled the first round, scoring well from distance.
The next session really sealed the deal as Gordon opened up with a salvo of accurate and punishing shots to force a standing eight count.
The Harwich boxer then repeated the feat towards the end of the session to have his opponent in all sorts of trouble.
To Meins' credit, he battled back well in the last round.
However, it was the Harwich boxer who advanced to the next round, via a clear unanimous points decision and taking the Eastern Counties crown on the way.
Gordon will be joined by brother Rio, who is in the junior development championships, in the national pre-quarter final round at Harlow on Sunday.
