STANWAY ROVERS booked their place in the FA Vase second qualifying round thanks to an excellent 1-0 victory at Yaxley.

Billy Hunt scored the only goal of the game, to ensure Angelo Harrop’s side will be in Monday’s draw.

“It was a great win,” said the Rovers boss.

“We only had one sub so it was a massive result against a very good side.”

It was highly-rated striker Hunt’s second goal of the week, having also been on target against FC CLACTON last Tuesday.

The Seasiders were in Thurlow Nunn League premier division action at Ipswich Wanderers, looking for their first positive result of the season after 15 defeats.

And they managed their opening point of the campaign after drawing 2-2.

Kieron Shelley’s side fell behind just after the midway point in the first half, from a glancing header.

However, the experienced Michael Brothers – who only signed in the week - put his side on level terms on 53 minutes.

Skipper Adam Daniels looked to have grabbed a precious winner, but the hosts equalised in the latter stages.

Brothers’ eventful debut concluded with him being sent off in the last few seconds, after receiving a controversial second yellow card.

However, it failed to take the gloss off a very positive afternoon for the Seasiders.

BRANTHAM ATHLETIC were 2-1 winners at Long Melford.

Both their goals came in the first half, with the first coming from former Stanway Rovers and Brightlingsea Regent striker Ben Newson.

WIVNEHOE TOWN were without a fixture.

In the first division, HALSTEAD TOWN won 3-2 after a thrilling encounter at King’s Lynn Reserves.

The hosts took the lead when a cross from the right was rifled home.

However, the Humbugs were soon on level terms when Gary McIlwaire nodded past the onrushing Lynn keeper.

Mark Benterman’s side went in front early in the second half when Tom Cook’s through ball was clinically finished by Chris Bryan.

Lynn equalised when a home striker finished with a low effort past keeper Joe Fowler.

But Halstead grabbed their winner when Michael Runicles smashed home, after a powerful run and cross from Jules Simon-Parsons.

A Lynn player was second off for a high challenge in the closing minutes.

Elsewhere, high-flying COGGESHALL TOWN ran out 4-0 winners at home to Diss Town.

All their goals came in an incident-packed second half.

HOLLAND FC had no game while BRAINTREE TOWN RESERVES produced a strong performance to win 3-1 at Team Bury.
