UNUSUALLY, the wind was from an Easterly direction at Saturday's Harwich Parkrun.

It meant an outward tailwind was the order of the day, with a surprisingly strong headwind on the return leg.

For the second week in a row, Warren Byrd was home first. His time this week was 19 minutes and five seconds.

The two Simons, Day and Harrison, battled it out for second and third spot. Only two seconds separated the two Harwich Runners, with Day (19m 13s) pipping Harrison (19m 15s).

The top three ladies all came in one after the other in positions 18th, 19th and 20th.

For the second time in her Parkrun career, Ellie Haynes was the first lady home, reaching the bandstand finish in 23m 34s.

The next one home was previous first finishing lady Antoinette Wilson, in 24m 4s.

The third lady home was visiting athlete Maria Ward, with a time of 24m 19s.

Two members of Harwich Runners achieved personal bests this week, with Hannah Jarvis managing 26m 5s and Will Roxby-Clarke 21m 35s, finishing in ninth place.

Stuart Weaver continued his preparations for the Milton Keynes marathon at the weekend with another excellent performance over 20 miles.

Last month, Weaver managed just under two hours 18 minutes at the Tarpley 20-mile near Bury and this weekend he travelled further north to Wymondham.

The exposed course meant the 285 runners had to battle against the wind as well as the mileage but Weaver came away with a time of 2h 19m and a highly-respectable 24th overall.

At the ladies-only Farmhouse five-mile event, Sarah Roxby-Clarke was the sole Harwich Runner.

She completed the course in 54m 14s, having completed the local Parkrun the previous day, pushing her son in a buggy, in 34m 31s.
