STANWAY Rovers were undone in the Thurlow Nunn League by the premier division's bottom side Swaffham Town.

It was quite an even first half with Stanway shading the possession, but the home side couldn’t take the advantage as their best effort crashed against the crossbar.

In the second half, Swaffham Town came out flying and they took an early lead with a tap in, before, on the hour mark, Nick Castellan completed his brace with a shot from range after Stanway lost concentration from a corner.

After that, Stanway had good possession and chances but they couldn’t make them count.

There was also a defeat in the premier division for WIVENHOE TOWN, who came unstuck thanks to two late goals at Ely City.

Things had looked good for the Dragons early on as a long ball forward from Jamie Baker was fired in by Adam Hampson to give them the lead after just five minutes.

However, Ely levelled before half-time with a Spencer Saberton strike to make it all-square at the break.

David Lopez hit the woodwork for Wivenhoe in the second half, but just as it seemed they would travel back with a point, they were hit in the last five minutes.

Goals from Sam Reed and Luke Hasfield saw the hosts poach all three points as the Dragons were left disappointed.

The night before had seen BRANTHAM ATHLETIC continue their impressive premier division form as they beat Ipswich Wanderers 3-0 thanks to an Ollie Mann double and a Sean Gunn strike.

It was Athletic's third win in a row and was their fifth clean sheet from their last six outings.

There was also a third consecutive win for BRAINTREE TOWN RESERVES in division one.

The Young Irons had a 3-1 win on the road as goals from Jake Thompson, Joe Jones and Craig Braham-Barrett saw them victorious at Cornard United.

HOLLAND FC were also 3-1 winners in division one, but it came on home turf as they beat visiting Wisbech St Mary, while the game at HALSTEAD TOWN ended 0-0 as they were held by Debenham LC.

The game saw former Humbugs manager Mark Benterman return to his old club with his new charges, but neither side was able to force the breakthrough, which left current Halstead boss, Mark McLean, feeling frustrated.

He said: "Debenham are very compact; we knew that and we just didn't manipulate them enough.

"We didn't really settle it down.

"We have a lot of good ball players in the middle of the park but we bypassed them.

"It was a game where I wanted us to score early as it would have changed the whole complexion and shape of the game but we didn't and it became tough to break down.

"There were phases in the game that I liked and some I didn't but that's par for the course."
