HARWICH and Dovercourt Golf Club's ladies hosted their annual guest day.

Four ball better ball was the format of the competition, with both scores on the par threes.

Chris Bradford and her guest, Linda Hales, from Frinton, triumphed, closely followed by Ruth Stapleton and her guest, Marilyn Clarke, the lady captain from Frinton.

Clarke also won the nearest the pin prize for the guests and Kate Fender for the members.

Angela Vaughn's drive on the second was nearest the line and Viv Dale for the members.

Lady captain's shot of the day prize was awarded to Yvonne Davies.

Her drive on the par three fifth landed in the bunker from where her brilliant - or lucky - escape shot finished in the hole.

Jane Hurst enjoyed a welcome return to golf after a lengthy lay-off due to injury and played to her handicap, winning the separate singles stableford competition for the ladies who were without guests.

The guests were impressed by the condition of the course, despite the recent greens irrigation work and hot, dry weather.

The greenkeepers are to be congratulated for having done a great job in maintaining the course to its usual high standard.
