HARWICH and Dovercourt Golf Club hosted their annual mixed friendly against Braintree.

It was a four ball better ball event with Hambro scoring, which meant all matches had to complete 18 holes.

As the match progressed, it became clear the final two groups would be playing the last couple of holes in the dark.

When all the scores were in, counted and verified, it was Harwich who won by 12 holes and their winning team consisted of Mark Gillett and Georgina Grout, Matt Parkin and lady captain Viv Dale, Colin Daines and Glynis Hutchence, Bernie and Linda Burrows, Gus Hales and Chris Bradford, Bob and Jan Neighbour and last pair John and Sue Hayes.

The Braintree captain presented a trophy to the pair that won by the greatest margin and that was Gillett and Grout.

They were victorious by six holes.

Meanwhile, Harwich also held their October Medal.

Matt Kincaid won division one, going out in 40 and coming back in 38, with three birdies and six pars, beating Tony Bush by three shots.

Gavin Bennett won division two, going out in 41 and coming back in 47, with one birdie and five pars, beating Adrian Gray by four shots.

Results: Division one: Matt Kincaid nett 65, Tony Bush nett 68 (OCB), Tim Leeks nett 68.

Division two: Gavin Bennett nett 64, Adrian Gray nett 68, Alan Rodger nett 70.
