HARWICH and Dovercourt Golf Club's junior section staged their annual competition for the John Eldridge Trophy.

It is held over 18 holes and is a stableford scoring competition.

There was some excellent golf, in particular from Lucy Henshall, who has a playing handicap of 30.

She scored a respectable 17 points on the first nine holes but had a terrific second nine holes, where she scored a very impressive 23 points.

At the end of day, she was declared the winner with 40 points, with Cameron Rose claiming second with 31.

Meanwhile, the annual Nigel White memorial day competition took place and this is a Texas Scramble event for teams of four, where the winning team is decided by the lowest net score over 18 holes.

The winning team consisted of John Oakley, Rod Noakes, Ricky Chambers and Daren Collins, who had a very good score of 58 nett.

Some £830 was made from this excellent fundraising day, with all money going back to the club for course improvements.

The October Midweek Medal took place but day one was almost a washout, due to the torrential downpour in the afternoon.

It was therefore no surprise that the scores came from the second day's play.

Steve Lyons took the spoils by scoring a very impressive 46 points, with Mark Gillett in second on countback from Nick Rate, with both players scoring 36 points.

Lyons has seen his handicap reduced to 14, which is a great achievement in his first full year of golf.
