HARWICH Boxing Club enjoyed a productive weekend with two of their members in action.

Welterweight Paul Gordon faced the challenge of local rival Reese Wade, from Essex University Boxing Club.

The pair met in an Eastern Counties elite final in Debenham, Suffolk.

The taller Harwich boxer struggled at times to contain the tenacious Wade, who was always lively with bursts of punches.

However, Gordon kept it close in the opening two rounds by firing off heavy shots of his own.

The last round saw the Harwich boxer finally gain some clear ground, scoring and moving well to take the round.

After a very close contest, Gordon took a wafer-thin split points verdict to move onto the next round of the National Elite Championships.

However, Wade was to be congratulated for his part in making it the bout of the night.

Gordon will be joined in the next round by Harwich’s Patrick Allen Cripps, who won the Eastern Counties light heavyweight title without throwing a punch, as his opponent withdrew due to injury.

Junior boxer Jack Farrow made the short hop to Halstead to take on Tyler Bolingbrooke, from Attleborough ABC.

The 15-year-old put in a solid performance, taking all three rounds with some neat boxing to win a unanimous points decision.

It was just reward for a boxer who always puts everything into his gym work.
