THE 151st Harwich Parkrun took part at Dovercourt's Cliff Park on Saturday.

The event, now in its third year, attracted 135 runners, joggers and walkers, some with dogs and others pushing buggies.

For some, it was an opportunity to run their fastest and set a new personal best (PB), while others were out to enjoy the fine weather and improve their fitness.

It was the seventh consecutive week where the attendance has been over 100.

An amazing 13,892 runs have now been completed at the Harwich Parkrun and Harwich Runners have had members complete over 5,000 of these runs.

This week, 38 members took part.

Once again, Harwich Runners occupied the top finish positions.

Graeme Knott, pushing son Leo in a buggy, was first finisher in 18 minutes and 11 seconds.

Close behind was Simon Harrison, in 18m 32s.

Claudine Benstead was first finishing female in 20m 48s and Kate Hodgkiss second in 21m 45s.

The first juniors were also club members - Eddison Barker, in 20m 30s, and Michael Knowles, in 20m 32s.

They were first and second and both achieved new PBs.

Other club members to record new PBs were Alan Gardner (21m 36s), Andy Carter (22m 8s, his third PB in three weeks) and Jo Higgon (28m 6s, her second in two weeks).

Elsewhere, Vicky McCrea joined 456 others at the Cannock Chase Park in the Midlands, where she recorded 27m 4s.

Hannah Jarvis (25m 7s) ran at the Preston Park event in Brighton.

Closer to home, Amos Seddon was at Felixstowe where he set a new course record for his 75-79 age group. His time was 26m 21s.

Will and Sarah Roxby-Clarke have set themselves the challenge of running at 52 different venues during 2018.

On Saturday they were at the Clare Castle Parkrun, where Will ran 20m 48s and Sarah 31m 51s.

On Sunday, Sarah ran at Southwold in the Great Run Local 5k and on Monday Will completed the Cattawade Crown nine-mile Chase. This is an off-road trail run.

Parkruns started in 2004 at Bushy Park in London, when just 13 runners started a weekly timed 5k run.

Of those original 13, only four have completed over 100 Parkruns.

One of those is Andrew Lane. He has run 334 times and this week he visited the Harwich event, finishing in 22m 14s.

He has run at dozens of Parkruns all over the UK and it was quite an honour to have a Parkrun 'original' at the local event.
