THE Bank Holiday weekend was a quieter one in terms of racing for Harwich Runners members.

Ian Cottee was the club's sole representative at the Sudbury five-mile race on Friday.

His time of 37 minutes and 40 seconds placed him 139th of the 343 runners tackling the course. Meanwhile, Becky McCorquodale took on an-off road 5k race at Debenham, near Ipswich.

She placed well, fifth overall and second lady in a time of 23m 8s.

In a different event, the Knotts won the family prize at the Framlingham duathlon.

The event comprised a 2k run, a 16k bike ride and then another 5k run.

Elsewhere, Steve Cooper competed in the Westminster Mile event.

Of the 180 finishers in the Masters event, Cooper placed 17th but was fifth in his age group (MV45) in a stunning time of 4m 48s.

On Saturday, at the Harwich Parkrun, 42 club members took part, while others competed at Parkrun events in other parts of the country.

Richard Newman opted for Ipswich, which he finished in 22m 44s.

Sarah and Will Roxby-Clarke chose Fritton Park, in Norfolk, for their run.

Sarah recorded 34m 26s and Will was sixth finisher in 20m 58s.

Hannah Jarvis was in action again at Preston Park, in Brighton, close to where she is studying at university, and ran 25m 41s.

Her mother, Rachel Jarvis, is becoming a regular at the Colchester Castle Park event.

This week, she recorded a personal best (PB) of 23m 2s and was third lady finisher.

James Mann is normally seen at ultra-distance events and 5k is a lot shorter than his usual 50-mile runs.

However, he also recorded a new PB this week at Harwich, returning to the bandstand in 23m 33s.

Ian Flook also set himself a new PB of 18m 51s, finishing in third place overall.

The first finisher was club member Simon Harrison in 18m 39s.

He left the park in first place and held onto it to record his fifth win at the local run.

Harwich Runners' Mark Rutter (18m 58s) and Simon Day (19m 42s) were fourth and fifth finishers.

The first club junior to finish was Michael Knowles (20m 32s).

Second was Eddison Barker (21m 41s) and third Alexander McCreadie (22m 56s).

The first finishing lady member was Claudine Benstead in third place (20m 52s) and fourth was Karen Stapleton (23m 9s).

Kim Pretty was one of those who started out as a walker in 2015 when the Harwich Parkrun started, taking 46 minutes to cover the 5k course.

He now has a best of 23m 32s and on Saturday completed his 100th Parkrun in 24m 16s.
