Harwich and Parkeston pull out of the Ridgeons League

Harwich and Parkeston have decided to pull out of the Ridgeons League.

The Shrimpers are rock bottom of the premier division with just one point to their name.

The decision to pull out of the league, and join the Kent Blaxill Essex and Suffolk Border League, was made at a committee meeting on Tuesday night.

For the full story and reaction, see Thursday's Daily Gazette and Friday's Harwich and Manningtree Standard.

What a sad day for local football. Be interesting to see what happens to the ground now. Some committee members old and new should hang their heads in shame.

RIP Harwich and Parkeston FC

It is said, but to say that committee members should hang their head in shame is wrong, the undertaker. If more of the community got behind the club during the season and more support was givent to them by fans, then this wouldn't have happened. Why are you saying 'RIP HPFC'? There not stopping playing football, there just changing leagues for next season!!!

There is no doubt that some of the committee have displayed an appetite keep H&P afloat, however to blame it on the local community for not supporting the club is wrong, it is not a given right that the local community support a club, but more that the club demonstrates that it deserves the local communities support. For too long stories have emanated from the Oak that local players do not want to play for the club, why is this ? a real shame that a town the size of Harwich cannot be galvanised into action. Two sides to every story we all know, but it is very sad that a once proud club will now be plying its trade at Border league level.

I say RIP HPFC because according to reports they are hardly paying the players anything and still finding it hard to make ends meet so how are they going to find it in the Border league where you can't charge people to watch(from what I have been old). They still have the ground to up keep. Hopefully I may be proved wrong but I can't see iit unless the ground is sold like was mentioned a ew years ago.
