FORMER Colchester United number two Mark Kinsella is the new assistant boss at League of Ireland side Drogheda United.

And the 42-year-old, who worked alongside U’s first-team boss Joe Dunne, does not see the move as a comedown, after working in English football.

“I know what I’m getting into and have no illusions,” said the former midfielder, who won 48 Republic of Ireland caps and played for his country at the 2002 World Cup.

“I’m not just here for a short spell, as a stepping stone to get back to England.

“I’m an Irishman and I’m happy to be back home.

“I know all about the League of Ireland and want to do well with Drogheda.

“After I left Colchester, I made the decision to come home to Ireland, to see if I could get some work over here, and then the chance came to go in to Drogheda as John McDonnell’s assistant.”
