Colchester United's under-21s suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat against Cardiff City, in their penultimate home game of the season.
Ben Turner’s looping header early in the second half proved enough to give the Bluebirds victory in the Professional Development League Two clash, at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.
The likes of Macauley Bonne and Tosin Olufemi both featured for John McGreal’s side, as their season reaches a conclusion.
Colchester’s best effort in the opening 20 minutes came from Byron Lawrence.
His long range effort was tipped away by Cardiff keeper Ben Wilson, following a flowing move involving Louis Dunne, Alex McQueen and Callum Harrison.
At the other end, Tom James went close on a number of occasions with shots from distance, as the sides went in at the break goal-less.
Wilson saved Lawrence’s low shot in the opening minutes of the second half, before Turner gave Cardiff the lead five minutes after the break.
Harrison twice went close for Colchester before the end but the Bluebirds held on for victory.
