Colchester United assistant manager Richard Hall admits he would not be surprised if some of their talented young players attracted some interest this summer.

But the U's number two has stressed it is important that the U’s keep the personnel that ended last season so strongly.

Colchester finished as one of League One's leading form teams, losing only two of their final ten games.

Hall knows their players such as George Moncur, Tom Eastman and Gavin Massey caught the eye in that impressive spell and acknowledged they may have attracted admiring glances from other clubs.

But he wants them to stay at the Weston Homes Community Stadium – and help continue that momentum into the new campaign.

Hall said: “We haven’t had any interest but there were some very good performances by our players especially towards the end of the season, so I wouldn’t be surprised.

“However, we want to keep that momentum going into the new season.

“I’m really confident after the way we finished the season – we believed we could get out of it and we did.

“If you look at our last ten games, we won five, drew three and only lost two of them and that kind of form is where we want to be.”

Colchester are intent on adding to their squad for the 2015-16 campaign, which kicks off on August 8.

The U’s have been in negotiations with three players and while they are yet to persuade their targets to put pen to paper, Hall says that talks have been positive.

“There’s no update on that yet,” said Hall, who said there is no fresh news on midfielder David Fox who is mulling over a new contract offer.

“We’ve identified players we’d like to bring in and talks are on-going.

“We’ll try and get something done as soon as possible.

“We’re optimistic on at least a couple of targets we have.

“They’re talking to other clubs too but we’ve had some positive talks and hopefully they’ll be some good news on them very soon.

“We’ll leave the financial side of it in the chairman’s capable hands.”
