SAM Walker is on the comeback trail - and could even feature in tomorrow’s pre-season friendly against Leyton Orient.

The Colchester United goalkeeper has been on the sidelines since suffering a knee injury in the 1-0 defeat at Coventry City on April 11.

However, he had his first full training session yesterday and is now hungry to get some game-time under his belt.

“The injury is coming along nicely,” said the former Chelsea shot-stopper.

“It feels good and much stronger.

“I had my first proper session with the lads yesterday and, touch wood, I’ll be playing again soon.

“We’re going to see how it feels today but I definitely want to get some game-time soon - if not tomorrow then on Tuesday night (against Ipswich Town).

“I can’t wait to play again and it’s been a difficult time, because of the injury.

“I never thought I’d miss pre-season, but I can honestly say I’ve missed it in the last few weeks.

“It’s been really hard watching the boys getting training sessions under their belts and playing friendlies.

“At least there’s been an end in sight, though, and it’s just been a case of building my knee up without rushing back.”
