Kane Vincent-Young can go from strength to strength at Colchester United after making his first-ever Football League start, according to boss Tony Humes.

The 19-year-old former Tottenham Hotspur youngster started his first-ever U's game in their 0-0 draw with Oldham Athletic, last night.

Vincent-Young, who is predominantly a right-back, started for Colchester at left-back in place of the injured Matt Briggs.

He earned praise from his manager for his solid performance, where he helped his side keep their first clean sheet of the season.

Humes said: “Kane acquitted himself well - he played against Jonathan Forte who’s a tricky player and Lee Croft who is very experienced.

“He’s got great experience from that and he’s taken his opportunity very well, when he’s had it and that can only do him good."
