Alex Wynter has begun a fortnight of complete rest following his head injury in Colchester United’s FA Cup defeat against Tottenham Hotspur.

The U’s centre-back was involved in a collision with team-mate Tom Eastman in the opening minutes of his side’s 4-1 fourth-round loss.

Wynter was immediately taken to Colchester General Hospital and underwent a CT scan, before being released late on Saturday evening.

The 22-year-old defender is now recovering at home with his family and the U’s have said they will keep a close watch on his recovery.

U’s physio Tony Flynn said: “Alex was released from hospital late on Saturday evening after a period of observation and spent the remainder of the weekend resting up at home in Colchester with his family.

“He’s still a little groggy, but will now undergo a period of cognitive and physical rest for the next two weeks in line with FA guidelines.

"After that time, he will return to the club and take part in a graduated return over the next week, where we will keep a close eye on his progress.

"Depending on how he fares in that time, then the club will be able to make a decision on how soon he can return to action."

Eastman is expected to return to training this week after receiving stitches in a head wound suffered in his collision with Wynter, in the Spurs defeat.
