Colchester United have agreed fees with both Barnsley and Peterborough United for George Moncur, according to reports.

But the Daily Gazette understands any deal to take the attacking midfielder away from the Weston Homes Community Stadium is still some way from being completed.

Moncur, who has a year remaining on his U's contract, is said to have held discussions with both clubs but is yet to agree on a move away from Colchester.

Both Barnsley, who were promoted from League One last season via the play-offs and Peterborough are said to have matched Colchester's asking price for Moncur, reportedly £500,000.

It is believed several add-on clauses have also been agreed, which could see the fee the U's receive for Moncur eventually rise to £750,000.

Last month, Colchester's director of football Tony Humes told the Daily Gazette that the interest that they had received in the attacking midfielder was "nowhere near their valuation" for Moncur, following reports of a bid of £150,000 from Charlton Athletic.

Moncur, who was the U's top goalscorer last season, has scored 23 goals in 97 appearances since joining Colchester from West Ham in August 2014, initially on loan.
