Colchester United under-23 boss Wayne Brown wants his side to maintain their unbeaten start to the season today.

The U's travel to play Cardiff City (kick-off 2pm), having won one and drawn two of their opening three matches in Professional Development League Two.

Brown said: "Cardiff City away will always be a tough fixture but that's something that the lads are used to.

"We'll do our homework on them and look to put in a good performance.

"The lads have had a good start to the season and when you look at the first three games, it's been very positive so far.

"We should have beaten Sheffield United and the Charlton win was also very pleasing but the draw against Hull City was a fair result.

"They've had a tough pre-season and we try and prepare the lads as best we can.

"They're an honest group and they put the work in on the training ground."

Wales youth international Rhys Williams could feature for Colchester in Cardiff, having joined them last month.

The former Bolton Wanderers goalkeeper has been handed a one-year development contract at the U's.

"Rhys is 19 and he's already played a bit of football," added Brown.

"He wants to play regularly for the under-23s and who knows what will come off that?

"I'm sure he's an ambitious lad who wants to play for the first team but the only way you can do that initially is to play week in, week out for the under-23s."
