Colchester United head coach John McGreal said he was satisfied with a point following his side’s 1-1 draw with Barnet this afternoon.

The U’s had led for much of the League Two encounter at The Hive, thanks to loanee Tarique Fosu’s sixth-minute strike.

But Curtis Weston’s 82nd-minute equaliser ensured Barnet claimed a draw from the match, which was merited on their second-half display.

McGreal said: “It was a game of two halves, we’ve come away with a point and we move on.

“We’d have loved to have taken all three points but before the match, a point away from home would have been really good to take.

“In the first half we played really well and we were looking to go again but in the second half, Barnet were the better team.

“When they equalised, they then started playing again and had more opportunities to score but we take the point.

“It was a tough game and the boys have had a few bumps and bruises.

“But I thought we played some excellent stuff in the first half which we didn’t continue in the second half and that’s something we can improve on.”

Weston’s equaliser came after Barnet had enjoyed the majority of possession in the second half, with Colchester having earlier dominated before the break.

“We didn’t deal with it higher up the pitch and we had to deal with a lot coming at us,” added McGreal, who confirmed that Sammie Szmodics was taken off in the first half because of a dead leg.

“I think (for the Barnet goal) it comes off his knee or his shin and goes into the bottom corner.

“You could sense that we couldn’t really get out of our defensive third until it went to 1-1 and then we created a few chances ourselves at the end.

“There’s a lot to build on and tons of positives to take.”
