Colchester United will host League One strugglers Chesterfield in their first round proper of this season's FA Cup.

The U's have been handed a home tie against the Spireites, following tonight's draw.

Chesterfield, who were FA Cup semi-finalists in 1997, currently lie fourth from bottom in League One, with three wins to their name.

Among their ranks is controversial striker Ched Evans, who last week was found not guilty of a rape charge.

Colchester were one of 48 clubs from League One and League Two in the first-round draw who joined the 32 winners from the fourth qualifying round.

Last season, Colchester reached the fourth round of the competition before losing 4-1 at home to Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur.

They had beaten Wealdstone, Altrincham and Charlton Athletic to progress to that stage.

Colchester's tie against Chesterfield will take place at the Weston Homes Community Stadium on the weekend of November 5 and 6.

National League side Braintree have also been handed a home tie in the first round proper.

They will face National League South side Eastbourne Borough.
