Colchester United head coach John McGreal has revealed Chris Porter missed his side's 2-1 FA Cup defeat against Chesterfield - after getting injured taking a penalty in training.

Porter suffered a hamstring injury at the U's Florence Park training ground the day before their cup exit at the hands of the Spireites.

Lloyd Doyley also picked up a muscle injury in training on Friday and also sat out Colchester's defeat against Chesterfield, adding to the club's lengthy injury list.

McGreal said: “They’re both muscle injuries that happened (on Friday).

“Lloyd Doyley picked his up in the last kick of the game in training and Chris Porter practised a penalty and felt the hamstring he felt at Crawley a couple of weeks ago and it’s tightened right up.

“They would have started against Chesterfield but we have to regroup and it just gives opportunities to other boys and we’re looking for them to take it."

Colchester will be hoping Porter and Doyley can shake off their injuries in time for the club's crucial League Two clash with Leyton Orient, on Saturday.

The U's are already missing the likes of Brennan Dickenson, Lewis Kinsella and Doug Loft, while Tom Lapslie and Frankie Kent are still lacking match action.
