COLCHESTER United skipper Luke Prosser has been ruled out of tomorrow’s League Two trip to Yeovil Town.

And with the defender set to see a specialist and potentially facing a spell on the sidelines, head coach John McGreal has hinted at recalling George Elokobi from his loan spell at Braintree Town.

“Luke isn’t available tomorrow,” said the U’s boss.

“He’s got a problem with his knee and he’s going to see a specialist.

“It’s a big blow for us because he’s our captain and he’s been excellent.

“He’s also a vocal boy and one of our more experienced players, so hopefully he won’t be out for too long.”

When asked about alternatives, McGreal threw Elokobi’s name into the mix and said he may consider recalling him from the Iron.

“George is another one,” he said.

“He’s out on loan at the moment. Do we call him back?

“We’ve got a bit of cover in there at the moment but it’s something we may look at.”

McGreal confirmed that both Chris Porter and Lloyd Doyley will be assessed, following their recent injuries, and that he is pleased to have fit-again pair Tom Lapslie and Brennan Dickenson back.

“Tom and Brennan have been a bit sore this week, because it was their first 90 minutes on Saturday,” said the U’s boss.

“But they want to train and they want to play. It’s more me trying to manage them.”

Tomorrow’s game has come too soon for Owen Garvan, who played for an hour as Colchester’s under-23s crashed to a 5-0 home defeat against Bristol City, in Professional Development League Two on Monday.

The Irishman is yet to feature this season after suffering a leg injury in pre-season.

“He’s building his minutes up,” said McGreal.

“He played for about an hour and I think there’s another two under-23 games next week, which will be really beneficial to Owen."
