Colchester United head coach John McGreal wants his players to put on a show for the supporters at the Weston Homes Community Stadium in the coming weeks.

After three games on the road, the U’s are now preparing to embark on a run of home games, with four of their next five League Two fixtures in north Essex.

Colchester have won their last four games at the Community Stadium and only three sides in the division have scored more goals than the U’s, on home soil.

And boss McGreal is now looking for his side to make home advantage count and close in on the play-off places.

McGreal told the Daily Gazette: “Our home form is particularly good at the moment; I think we’ve won our last four games there.

“We’ve had three tough away games – we’d have loved to have won for the travelling fans who were fantastic again.

“But at least we go home with a point knowing that we’re still in and around it and we’ve got a load of home games coming up, which is great.

“It’ll be nice to get home and see our home fans, particularly after the Carlisle game.

“We don’t want to put too much pressure on ourselves but there’s a huge feel-good factor around the place and it’s nice when the players are getting the plaudits.

“They love being a tough team to beat – the goalkeeper loves that and so do the defenders.

“We will have to change things around because that’s the nature of it and a lot of players have played a lot of minutes.

“But hopefully we can get back home and put on a show for our fans.

“If you can take your points away from home and win your home games, you’ve got half a chance and that’s what we’ll try and do.”

Meanwhile, McGreal has praised Matt Briggs after the left-back made his first Colchester appearance in nine months in their 1-1 draw at Blackpool.

Briggs, who has recovered from hip surgery, played in a wing-back role for the U’s and helped them claim a point at Bloomfield Road.

McGreal said: “He’s a little bit stiff after his first 90 minutes but I thought he was really good for us and he put a shift in, in his first game of the season.

“I picked him in pre-season just before he broke down and it’s such a shame that he has been injured.

“We thought he’d be back a lot quicker than what he actually was.

“But now we’ve got him, he will be a great asset for the next three months.”
