Colchester United stage their End of Season dinner tonight, at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

U’s fans have been voting for their Player of the Year, Young Player of the Year and Goal of the Season ahead of the ceremony.

Colchester play their final scheduled League Two game of the season this weekend when they host Yeovil Town, knowing that a win could secure them a play-off spot.

Ex-West Ham United and England striker and now Sky Sports pundit Tony Cottee will be the after dinner speaker at the event.

Meanwhile Sean Murray says he is relishing swapping a survival battle for a promotion push with Colchester.

The former Watford midfielder spent the opening five months of the campaign attempting to steer Swindon Town away from League One danger.

But after joining the U’s in January, he is now an important part of John McGreal’s side pushing to secure a play-off place, on the final day of the League Two season.

Murray said: “From starting the season at Swindon to coming here, I’ve enjoyed my football a hell of a lot playing for Colchester and hopefully, I can carry that on.

“The whole mood around the place at Swindon wasn’t great whereas here, coming into training is enjoyable.

“At Swindon, you were in a fight every day – it’s the same here but it’s for a different reason because we’re in a fight to go up.”

Swindon’s relegation from the third tier was confirmed last month and Murray says he has sympathy for his former colleagues at the County Ground.

“I feel bad for some of my friends back there as I know they’ve worked really hard but my focus is on Colchester now,” he said.

Colchester lie just a point off the play-off places, heading into their final game of the season at home to Yeovil Town on Saturday.

Murray was part of the U’s side that won 3-1 at Leyton Orient last weekend, to boost their chances of prolong their campaign further.

“We’ve been working all season to get to this point,” added the 23-year-old.

“To try and get into the play-offs is the main aim.”
