A sell-out crowd at Colchester United’s Weston Homes Community Stadium were treated to a goal glut as England Women’s team cruised to a comfortable 5-0 victory over Kazakhstan tonight.

Nearly 10,000 turned out in force at Colchester United’s home venue to see the Lionesses claim a third successive victory in their latest Group 1 World Cup qualifier, as they go in search of a place at France 2019.

England, as expected, dominated throughout in the second women’s international to be played at Colchester.

They had a valid 13th minute penalty shout turned down when Nikita Parris tumbled under Yekaterina Babshuk’s clumsy challenge in the area.

But less than two minutes later, the Lionesses were ahead.

After Keira Walsh had swung a cross into the area, Melissa Lawley collected the ball before sweeping emphatically past keeper Oksana Zheleznyak.

Parris was denied by Zheleznyak and Jodie Taylor had an effort ruled out, as the hosts went in search of another.

The visitors struggled to get the ball out of their own half much of the time and Alex Greenwood came close to doubling England’s lead just after the half hour when her snap shot was palmed over by Zheleznyak.

Despite boasting 84 per cent of first-half possession, the Lionesses’ lead was only 1-0 at the break.

But after Gemma Bonner blasted over from close range and Taylor’s deflected effort came back off a post, they doubled their advantage when substitute Fran Kirby slotted home from the spot, after Kazakhstan defender Bibigul Nurusheva handled in the area.

And Parris made it 3-0 soon after when she blasted emphatically past Kazakhstan’s substitute keeper Irina Sandalova from close range.

Parris netted her second of the game six minutes later when she polished off a well-worked move from eight yards.

And substitute Isobel Christiansen quickly made it 5-0 when she converted from Kirby’s assist.

Sandalova denied Kirby a sixth before the end, as the Lionesses cruised to victory.
