COLCHESTER UNITED 2

Under-18 Professional Development League Two

COLCHESTER United's under-18s made it three straight wins in the league after recording a well-deserved victory at Coventry City.

Lead coach Chris Llewellyn took a very young U's squad to the Alan Higgs Centre to take on the struggling Sky Blues, who are bottom of the league.

And two goals by Reuben Mudd saw Colchester to success, boosting them ahead of their FA Youth Cup quarter-final against Arsenal next week.

Colchester dominated the first half, looking very well organised with good shape throughout.

They took the lead when Mudd capitalised after the home keeper had made a save, heading in from the rebound.

However, Coventry were stronger in the second half and perhaps deserved a goal, to show for their efforts.

But Colchester could have had two or three more goals on the break while at the other end, the U's keeper showed confidence throughout and made a couple of good saves.

Mudd worked tirelessly and deserved the fortune of the second goal that rebounded off his knee from defender attempted clearance after he closed down really well to deny space.

After doing so well last season, Coventry lost their first ten league games this season.

They then recorded three consecutive wins, including a 2-1 success at Colchester, but have now lost their last eight matches and are now ten points adrift at the bottom.

The U's are ninth, one point behind neighbours Ipswich Town.
