Will Wright scored an early winner as Colchester United's under-23s won 1-0 at Cardiff City this afternoon to secure their second successive win in Professional Development League Two.
Wright fired in from close range after ten minutes to score what proved to be the U's winner against the Bluebirds.
Ryan Gondoh was unlucky not to double Colchester's lead on the half hour when his effort hit the woodwork, as the visitors went in at the break ahead.
Wright headed over the bar in the second half and Tariq Issa fired just wide with 14 minutes remaining, as Wayne Brown's side aimed to seal their victory.
But despite four minutes of stoppage time being added, the solitary goal proved to be enough for the U's.
Colchester's under-23s travel to play Sheffield United on Saturday, in their latest Professional Development League Two game.
Colchester United: Kurasik, Wright, Kazeem, Warde, Kensdale, James, Gondoh, Anderson, Sheriff, Issa, Sims. Subs: Hallett, Cornish, Allarakhia, Rooney.
