Colchester United head coach John McGreal admits some of his loanees have played their last game for the club.

Of the quartet of players on loan at the U’s, only Ben Stevenson featured in their 0-0 draw against Swindon Town, last weekend.

Ryan Inniss, Liam Mandeville and Olamide Shodipo were not involved and now look unlikely to feature in Colchester’s final match of the League Two season at Exeter City, on Saturday.

McGreal included under-23 attackers Ryan Gondoh and Tariq Issa among his substitutes against the Robins as he begins to plan for the next campaign.

McGreal said: “It’s possibly the last we’ve seen of them at Colchester.

“We’re getting a few other boys involved knowing what we’ve got to go with, next season.”

Meanwhile, McGreal says defender Frankie Kent had been “knocking on his door” to start prior to returning to their line-up against Swindon.

The 22-year-old was recalled to the U’s side for the 0-0 draw for the first time in eight matches, after replacing Tom Eastman.

McGreal said: “He’s knocked on my door to try and perform a couple of weeks ago but I just felt the boys have been doing really well defensively, of late.

“I just felt it was an opportunity to bring Frank back in.”
