Colchester United are still waiting for an answer from Kane Vincent-Young on whether or not he will be staying at the club.

Vincent-Young took part in the U’s official team picture at the club’s Open Day at the JobServe Community Stadium yesterday and linked up with the rest of the squad for their four-day pre-season trip to Cheshire.

The former Spurs youngster, who has been offered a new deal by Colchester after his previous deal expired, played in Ipswich Town’s friendly against Kilmarnock last week, as part of their pre-season trip to Spain.

But is now back training with the U’s and head coach John McGreal is still hoping they can persuade the defender to stay put.

McGreal told the Daily Gazette: “We’ve put a good contract offer to Kane.

“Kane’s contract ran out last week and it’s credit to him, he came back from the Ipswich week and when we asked him, within the drop of a hat he’s on our trip.

“I’m sure there will be other clubs interested in him but we’re trying our hardest to keep him.”

Colchester are now preparing for their next friendly at Dagenham and Redbridge tomorrow night, following a productive trip to Carden Park.

The U’s thrashed Northern Premier League outfit Colwyn Bay 5-0 last Friday, to maintain their 100 per cent record in pre-season.

“The game was a good test against a Northern Conference team,” said McGreal.

“You know what you’re going to get, a mixture of Manchester, Liverpool and Welsh boys and they are coming from work and have a living to make from football.

“We knew that it was going to be a test mentally more than anything and the boys adapted really well to it.

“We changed the team again and mixed the formations again.

“We’re tweaking little things and little ideas that we’re bringing in.

“We got Harry Pell really good game time.

“Luke Norris didn’t play but trained really well while we were away and got in a session on Sunday, so he’s not too far away.

“It was a good all-round exercise.

“We used Carden Park for the third year – Robbie (Cowling) again put his hand in his pocket for us and it was a really good exercise for us, especially with the new signings that we’ve made.

“We get to know the ins and outs of how they work when they’re under stress, because there was a lot more hard work this year.

“We put on a few extra sessions and we had a good game on the Friday evening.”
