Jim Magilton hailed his Ipswich Town players as ‘immense to a man’ after their hard-earned 2-1 victory at Oakwell.

Jon Stead scored twice in the first ten minutes as the visitors chalked up their sixth away win of the season.

Afterwards, boss Magilton was full of praise for his side and said: “My players showed a great desire to get a result.

“They were very hungry, everyone wanted the ball and we had long spells of possession which is never an easy thing to achieve at Barnsley.

“The boys dug in, showed tremendous character and were immense to a man.

“They showed a great appetite both to defend and attack and to get the result.

“I thought they worked extremely hard and it was a tremendous performance and three points.”

Magilton admitted being heartened by his side’s display after the glamour and excitement of Saturday’s FA Cup defeat at Chelsea.

“It could have been a case of after the Lord Mayor’s Show, but it wasn’t,” he said.

“I’m sure what happened at the weekend will have given the players’ confidence a boost and that was evident in the way they played last night.

“We showed our quality in the first half and then our character and grit in the second.

“The squad are showing a real togetherness and I was very, very proud.”

Meanwhile, Argentinian left-sided midfielder Luciano Civelli has passed a medical and agreed terms on a move to Ipswich.

The 22-year-old, who joins from Atletico Club Banfield, is expected to be unveiled to the press tomorrow and could be in contention for Saturday’s home date with Plymouth.

Town’s home match with Nottingham Forest, which was originally scheduled for next Tuesday but had to be cancelled because of the Midlanders’ FA Cup replay with Derby County, has now been rearranged for Wednesday, February 18.
