HARWICH ABC light-welterweight John Wheatley made the short hop to Colchester United’s Weston Homes Community Stadium to face the challenge of Essex University’s Toyin Alafobi over three two-minute rounds.
The 25-year-old Harwich boxer’s neat and well-timed left-hook paid dividends in the opener, as he edged ahead.
Afolabi brought himself back into contention in the second session as he reduced the deficit with a number of telling straight punch combinations, to set up a final round with all to play for.
Wheatley seized the initiative as he upped his work-rate significantly to do enough to secure a close, yet unanimous judges points decision to continue his recent great run of form.
