HARWICH Runners grabbed the last chance to race on the roads, before the festive season starts in earnest.

The journey to Beccles for the Turkey Trot Ten miles race proved a winning and record breaking one.

Harwich’s athlete-of-the-year Robert Reason rounded off a fantastic 2012, winning the race in fine style.

Back on his favourite surface the Harwich flyer clocked an impressive 55 minutes 54 seconds.

Great things are expected for Reason in 2013, with the London Marathon and his own club record a major target.

Chasing Reason in the early stages was team-mate Graeme Knott.

After a year working at the London Olympics, Knott is finding his way back to top form.

On this occasion he succumbed to a stitch and settled for a good 59m 16s clocking in eighth.

Mark Rutter is another Harwich athlete to excel in the last 12 months.

A time of 62m 44s added another club age record to his expanding collection and won his age group on the day.

Becky McCorquodale has made good progress from long-term injury and showed flashes of her former powers.

Going through five miles in a quick 33m 47s, McCorquodale suffered a stitch at eight miles, but was still home in a time under 70 minutes.

Her 69m 14s, for 50th place overall, showed the dedicated Harwich athlete can look forward with relish to racing in 2013.

Elspeth Knott was another Harwich athlete to be troubled by a stitch.

She finished the race with her daughter Clare in a time of 88m 27s, winning her age category.

Roly Knott completed the Harwich squad, recording a good 91m 20s.
