BRANTHAM Athletic boss Tony Hall admitted some of his players “froze” as their FA Vase dream ended against Shildon.
The Thurlow Nunn League high-fliers had been hoping to book their place in the quarter-finals.
But it was the Durham visitors who ran out comfortable winners in Saturday’s fifth-round tie, racing into a 3-0 lead and then adding their fourth goal after Simon Mann pulled one back for Brantham.
“Shildon were the better side and seemed to want it more than us,” said Hall.
“They were top class, worked hard and took their chances.
“I hope they go all the way and win the competition now.
“We’re out and they’re still in it.
“Our dream is over but theirs goes on and I wish them the best of luck.
“Some of my boys froze and that happens. They’re young lads with a long way to go in their careers and they’ll learn from it.
“They need to reflect on this and make themselves better players, because of what happened.”
