LITTLE Oakley’s footballers have set a benchmark for the rest of the season.

The Acorns recorded one of their best results of the campaign after thrashing Alresford Colne Rangers 4-0, in the Kent Blaxill Essex and Suffolk Border League premier division on Saturday.

“It was our best performance of the season,” said joint-boss Paul Sadler.

“Our players proved what they’re capable off and have set themselves a benchmark.

“Our work-rate and will to win was immense and the score could have been a lot greater.”

Oakley produced another excellent display against Tollesbury, on Tuesday, but missed their chances and ended up losing 2-1.

“It was a very similar performance,” said Sadler.

“The energy and passion was there, but we weren’t able to finish them off and then paid the price.

“We more than matched them, though, and created more good chances than them.

“However, a combination of poor finishing and indecision let us down.

“Although it was disappointing to lose, we can take so many positives out of it into our next game at home to Holland FC on May 10.”
