HARWICH and Dovercourt’s golfers have progressed to the sixth round of the Mail on Sunday competition.

In their most recent match, the team of five entertained Stowmarket.

Although the result was close, Harwich did their club proud after winning by three matches to two.

Nick Rate led the way and had a close match, finishing one-down.

However, John Oakley, still on his winning streak, came in with a two-up win.

Tom Neale was unable to follow suit on this occasion, losing his match 4/3 down.

However, Mark Gillett came in one-up, as did Eric Bushell.

The team have now moved into the last 64 and now play away to Costesse Park, from Norfolk.

In the ladies’ section, the Dumbarton Quaich Trophy was won by Carol Wrayton (nett 76).

Viv Dale was second, with nett 79, on countback from Chris Bradford, also nett 79.

In the veterans’ section, the June Basil Warner event was won by Peter Cole (36 points).

Geoff Parks was second, with 35, and Dave McGuiggan third, with 33, on countback from Syd Johnson.
