HARWICH AND DOVERCOURT 0
CHRISTCHURCH 1
Suffolk Women’s Hockey League premier division
HARWICH were pipped by second-placed Christchurch.
Both sides started well but it was the visitors who created the better chances.
Only superb stops from Donna Garland and saves from keeper Carolyn Rowland kept it 0-0.
Skipper Sophie Southgate had a good chance but found the away keeper in good form.
The game stayed goal-less until half-time.
Harwich pressed harder in the second half and had several chances, but the visiting defence held firm.
Christchurch opened the scoring with 15 minutes to go, after a scramble near the Harwich goal-line.
This forced the hosts to push forward but resolute defending kept them at bay.
Garland and Karen Nicholls were superb at the back, with Caz Greenall covering plenty of ground in the holding slot at the back.
Young Emma Joslin continues to improve and Fi Wynne showed her class, while still recovering from injury.
Harwich, who remain clear in third place, have no game next week.
