Charlie Goodlake’s second-half goal against Newmarket Town was enough to give WIVENHOE TOWN some important breathing space in the Thurlow Nunn League premier division relegation battle.

Goodlake’s solitary strike was enough to deliver all three points in a 1-0 win against the Jockeys.

Wivenhoe’s win was bad news for the side directly below them in the table, though.

FC CLACTON are now eight points adrift of safety after a 2-0 defeat at Kirkley and Pakefield extended their losing run to eight games.

There was better news for STANWAY ROVERS, though, as they moved third in the premier division with a 4-0 win at Fakenham Town with a Ray Turner brace and goals by Karl-Mike Fondop-Talon and Paris Tuwizama.

BRANTHAM ATHLETIC moved up to 12th as they recorded back-to-back wins for only the second time this season in the premier division.

Athletic backed up their 4-0 Valentine’s Day win against Gorleston with a 3-2 victory against top-ten side Whitton United.

There will be no cup final for HALSTEAD TOWN this year, though, as Great Yarmouth Town won their Thurlow Nunn League First Division Knockout Cup semi-final 3-2.
