HARWICH Runners members are well into their long-distance training, with marathons in mind.
The Tarpley 20-mile race at Beyton, near Bury St Edmunds, provided a good test for the 340 runners.
Francis Mills completed the course in 2h 51m 25s – an 11-minute improvement on his previous best – as he finished in 204th place.
Madeline Lewis was running this distance for the first time and impressed with a time of 2h 54m 57s, placing her 222nd overall and sixth in her age group (FV35).
On the same day, a ten-mile race was held and Harwich Runners also had two finishers.
John Francis claimed 42nd place in the field of 353 and was second in his age category (MV50) in a time of 1h 7m 4s.
Just three places further back was Robin Brookes, whose time of 1h 7m 30s was impressive, following a recent bout of flu.
