TEN Harwich Runners were in action at the Essex 20-mile race in Langham.

Rob Reason, gearing up for the London Marathon, finished in sixth place.

His time of one hour, 57 minutes and 32 seconds was his fastest over the distance since 2011.

Simon Day, in his first outing over 20 miles, recorded a stunning time of 2h 12m 59s, for 37th overall.

Steve Burbidge was taking on his first 20-mile race and had a brilliant run, finishing 43rd in 2h 14m 31s.

He was followed by Matt Doran in 122nd, in 2h 32m 42s, who lowered his previous best by an incredible 40 minutes.

Francis Mills also recorded a personal best with a time of 2h 50m 3s.

Jeff Higgon was sixth in his age group (MV60) in 2h 52m 32s while Julian Cordwell finished in 3h 20m 52s and Louise Papworth in 3h 56m 40.

Laura Parker was making her debut over this distance and finished in 3h 22m 26s.

There was an outstanding performance by Ann Piercy.

Her time of 3h 7m 28s placed her sixth on the day in her age group (FV55) but was also quick enough to achieve a new Harwich Runners club record for 20 miles in the F60 category.

Meanwhile, Harwich were represented at the Silverstone half-marathon.

Clare McKenna recorded 2h 17m 48s and Paul Kerrison 1h 49m 28s.

It was a good day for both Will and Sarah Roxby-Clarke, with Will recording a five-minute personal best with 1h 43m 59s and Sarah completing her first half- marathon for the club in 2h 11m 41s.
