CORECALONA 4

SUNDAY SHRIMPERS 0

John Fowler Memorial Cup final

A GOAL just before half-time and a second soon after the break ended the Shrimpers’ hopes of a cup final upset.

The Harwich side played well in the first half and had the edge on their premier division opponents.

Sam Eldridge had the Shrimpers’ first chance but goalkeeper Chilver saved with his feet.

Midway through the half, the Shrimpers went within inches of taking the lead when Eldridge lobbed the ball over advancing keeper Chilver – only to see it drop just wide.

Corecalona threatened but the Shrimpers’ defence stood firm.

Mark Palmer had a half-chance at the other end but his effort was blocked.

In the 44th minute, Eldon Craig reacted quickly to head Corecalona into the lead.

With the contest close, the next goal was going to be vital and man-of-the-match Craig’s bullet header gave Corecalona the lead.

Shrimpers tried to fight back but Corecalona’s defence was rock solid, while in attack their finishing was lethal.

John Bulmer netted a third headed goal and Callum Gildea struck their fourth in the closing minutes.

Classy Corecalona now go on to contest the Essex Premier Sunday Cup final, while Shrimpers travel to meet Iceni in their quest for the division one title.
