The Seasiders beat Kirkley and Pakefield 1-0 in today’s crucial match at the Rush Green Bowl.
The Dragons, meanwhile, who needed to win, conceded a late goal and could only draw 1-1 at Thetford Town.
It means Clacton have a five-point lead over Wivenhoe, with just one more round of games to come next Saturday.
Aaron Condon scored the Seasiders’ precious winner, in the 71st minute.
Reece Keating was on target for Wivenhoe.
Elsewhere, STANWAY ROVERS were held to a 1-1 draw at already-relegated Ely City.
Angelo Harrop’s side have now dropped to third.
BRANTHAM ATHLETIC had no game today.
In division one, HALSTEAD TOWN beat Haverhill Borough 1-0.
BRAINTREE TOWN RESERVES lost 2-0 at Needham Market Reserves on Friday night.
