HARWICH Swimming Club travelled to Becontree for the third round of the Essex League.

The evening started well, with their 11 and under girls and boys’ freestyle relay teams finishing second and third respectively.

Tommy Cooper repeated his first place from the last round in the 13 and under 50 metres freestyle in another personal best (PB).

Ruby Hammond was her usual consistent self, claiming second place in the 11 and under butterfly and third in the 11 and under freestyle.

Callum Everitt knocked two seconds off his PBs in the 100m breaststroke and 100m backstroke.

Daryl Rands again shone by gaining second place in the 100m breaststroke, with a PB, and knocked almost four seconds off his PB in the 100m freestyle.

This was enough to earn him another second place.

William Kent was competing in the 100m freestyle in his age group for the first time and managed to knock eight seconds off his PB.

The swimmer of the gala trophy was awarded to Joshua Herbert (pictured), who came first in the 50m fly in his age group but also achieved fourth place and a PB in the 15 and under 50m fly.

Harwich are improving with each round and aiming to go at least one place better in the final round at Braintree on May 16.

Final points: 1 Epping Forest 230 points, 2 Canvey Island 227, 3 Chelmsford 188, 4 Saffron Seals 141, 5 Harwich 132, 6 Hornchurch 102.
