HARWICH and Dovercourt Cricket Club skipper Sam Felgate hailed the “desire and attitude” of his players as they notched back-to-back wins.

The Low Road side followed up their victory at Bury St Edmunds with a three-wicket success against Nacton, on Saturday.

They have won two of their opening three games in division five of the Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship.

“Nacton were a very tough outfit,” said Felgate.

“They’re a plucky side who know how to win games, but we ground it out and were the better team on the day.

“Winning the toss was very important, as there was no life in the pitch early on, and we were confident we could chase a sub-150 score.

“It was a very good all-round team performance in tricky conditions and I can only congratulate the players on their desire and attitude.

“Our bowling attack is one of the best in the league and I think a few more games will see our batting improve. This is one of the best starts I can remember us having, but we’re not getting carried away.

“There’s a very long way to go and we still have the tougher teams to play, starting tomorrow.”

Next up for Harwich is tomorrow’s home match against Walsham-le-Willows.

The sides are fifth and sixth in the table respectively.

“Walsham are unbeaten in 17 games, but are an unknown quantity and haven’t played us yet,” added Felgate.

“The lads know we can beat anybody if we turn up on the day.

“I feel sure that if we play to our best we can win again tomorrow.”

Harwich’s wickets were shared around last week, with Adeel Abbas and Steve Bushell claiming three and Dinesh Devdas and Mark Davies two.

Arron Bilton was again top-scorer with the bat, hitting 62.

Saturday was also a good day for Harwich’s second team, as they won by five wickets in their division eight east derby at Mistley twos.
