THIS was a close match, with the overall result being in doubt until the final end of the last rink.

Happy Valley won two rinks and Dovercourt one, with one drawn.

However, as Dovercourt had the highest points score, winning 67-59, the points were shared 5-5.

Dovercourt’s winning end was skipped by Steve Day, ably supported by Peter Martin and John Welch, producing an impressive 26-8 score.

The match was played in sunshine throughout and a pleasant afternoon was had by all.

Meanwhile, Dovercourt’s ladies’ first friendly was at home to Colchester Ardleigh.

They won on the rink skipped by Sandra Hambling but lost on the rink skipped by Pam Bloom.

The result was that Dovercourt lost 38-30.

In a ladies’ league match, Dovercourt A beat Happy Valley 36-27.

This match was enjoyed by both teams in lovely conditions.

The rink skipped by Hambling won 28-6 but Bloom’s rink lost 21-8.

In the county competion, the triples match featuring Val Green and Bloom won by one shot at West Mersea.

Dovercourt’s outside bowling club are holding two open days at their ground in Fronks Avenue.

They will take place on May 24 and 25, starting at 2pm.
