TERRY Howlett added to his vast medal collection by winning a silver at the European Hockey Championships.
The Dovercourt veteran was playing for England’s over-70s in the competition at Southgate Hockey Club, in London.
He helped his team all the way to the final, against Holland.
However, they were pipped on penalties so agonisingly missed out on gold.
With only four countries able to field teams in this age group, England had easy round-robin victories over Germany (9-0) and Scotland (6-0), followed by a 0-0 draw with Holland.
In their semi-final, England beat the much-improved Scots 1-0 to set up a rematch with Holland.
In a very edgy match, England, who were expected to win, opened the scoring.
However, Holland levelled when their opponents had a player in the sin-bin.
With no extra-time played, it went straight to penalties and Holland took the European title after prevailing 4-2.
England had beaten Holland in last year’s World Championships, in The Hague.
It was therefore a bit of an unexpected result, but injuries to key players left them without their usual fire-power up front.
