HARWICH and Dovercourt High School students have been showing their skills on the rugby pitch.

Their Year Eight team won by nine tries to eight in a contest against Northgate High.

Mitch Smith (two), Jack James (three), Sam Cooke (three) and Harvey Smith scored their tries and Harwich’s men-of-the-match were Will Miler, Charlie Brough and Jay Ayling.

Meanwhile, the Year Sevens team were in action at Ipswich.

The format was nine-a-side, so a rotation system was in place to accommodate all 16 players.

Harwich won all their games, thanks to tries from Ioan Woodward, Harvey Bennett and Harry Pitham.

Alex Ashworth produced a man-of-the-match performance, scoring a hat-trick of tries in the first game.

Harwich’s Year Nine team won by nine tries to two – 45-10 – against Clacton County High School.

Their under-16 team were also in against the Clacton school.

Although they lost by six tries to nil, Harwich went close and there were key contributions from James Ashworth, Harry Windred, Jack Mulligan, Luke Williams and Kullen Smart.
