A goal from Mitch Hunter allowed Witham Town to end a run of three games without a Ryman League division north victory as they came from behind to win at Phoenix Sports.

Phoenix had won 2-1 in the corresponding fixture between the two clubs at the Village Glass Stadium back in August, but the scoreline was reversed this time around.

However, it had looked like Witham may struggle to record their first win in four league outings at the halfway stage as they trailed 1-0 at the break.

Garry Kimble’s team had gone behind to a 17th minute goal from Phoenix’s Ricky Freeman, but it all changed in three second-half minutes.

Hussan Nalbant came off the bench to get a 57th minute leveller for Town and Hunter popped in the winner on the hour mark as Witham took three points that lifted them one place and up to 19th in the table.

There was also a division north success for MALDON & TIPTREE as the Jammers enjoyed a third straight win with a 2-1 triumph at Great Wakering Rovers.

It was Darren McQueen who proved to be Maldon’s goal hero in the Essex derby clash.

He put the visitors ahead in the dying stages of the first half and even though Great Wakering equalised with a 62nd minute leveller from Jay Nash, McQueen got a second in the 71st minute.

It was a decisive goal as well, as Maldon held on to their lead this time to make it nine points taken from their last three division north games and up into ninth spot in the table.

HEYBRIDGE SWIFTS stayed lodged in the bottom two, though, as they lost 3-1 against Soham Town Rangers at Scraley Road.

It had been 0-0 at half-time, but Soham quickly took the lead after the restart as George Darling found the back of the net in the 47th minute.

Rangers then went 2-0 ahead with a Ryan Sharman goal in the 66th minute and despite Swifts halving the deficit thanks to an own goal three minutes later, the visitors made the points safe in the 90th minute with a third goal from Callum Russell.

There was frustration for BRIGHTLINGSEA REGENT, though, as their scheduled game at Redbridge was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
